OPPO unveiled the new 240W charging technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The company called it the 240W SuperVOOC Flash Charge. and is claimed to be the fastest smartphone charging technology in the world. Now, Realme, who usually shares the same tech and R&D has unveiled the same charging solution. The new charging standard will make its way on the upcoming Realme GT Neo 5. The new 240W solution is said to fully charge a 4500mAh battery in just 9 minutes.
To recall, in 2021, the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) released the USB PD 3.1 revision, which hiked the maximum power output allowed using the USB-C from 100W to 240W. The new charging standards draw 20 volts/12 amps of power and will be equally distributed to the dual-cell battery.
Realme 240W charging solution
Realme says the battery should be degraded by 20 percent after 800 cycles, considering that Realme is using OPPO’s technology. Realme says that it has custom-made a 12A charging cable with 21AWG thickened copper wires, which increased current carrying capacity by 20 percent over the previous generation solution.
In comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a maximum fast charging speed for 27W wired and 15W wireless. Using the wireless charging capabilities of the MagSafe charger, it takes two hours and 18 minutes to charge the 4323mAh battery from 0 percent to 100 percent.
The Realme 240W dual GaN charging solution includes 13 temperature sensors, a PS3 fireproof design, a real-time safety monitoring system, and 6580 mm2 graphene phase-change cooling material. Realme claims that after 21 days of charging and discharging, there was no safety failure with the test phone at 85°C high temperature and 85 percent high humidity.
Realme GT Neo 5 specs (rumoured)
Realme GT Neo 5 is said to come with a 6.7-inch FHD+ display, 1220 x 2472 pixels resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The phone is tipped to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and will have an in-display fingerprint sensor for security.
As for the cameras, the Realme GT Neo 5 will have a 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor and a 25MP sensor. The handset will apparently be available in two models, one with a 240W charging and a 4,600mAh battery, and the other could be a 5,000mAh battery with a 150W solution. We should know more details next month when the phone launches.
