This week in tech saw one of the biggest launch events, the Galaxy Unpacked. At the event, Samsung announced a total of seven products. We also saw one of the biggest rebrandings with Twitter X-ing the blue bird logo. Amid the Galaxy Z Fold 5 fanfare, OnePlus also confirmed the name of its first foldable phone. Nothing also broke its silence on its upcoming Phone (2) lookalikes. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest stories in tech this week.
Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event
Samsung launched a series of products at its Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea. The lineup includes the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Tab S9 series, and Galaxy Watch 6 series. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are the company’s latest foldable phones and are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The Galaxy Tab S9 series has three models in total including the Tab S9+ and Tab S9 Ultra. The Galaxy Watch 6 series also has a ‘Classic’ model which has the rotating bezel that Samsung had discontinued. All of these products are coming to India and their prices have been revealed.
Twitter logo change
Twitter went through its biggest rebranding ever thanks to Elon Musk. The little blue bird has been replaced by an ‘X’. The letter’s outline is white against a black backdrop. It’s completely different from how we’ve been seeing Twitter for years. So far, only the Twitter web client has been changed but some have noticed the Android and iOS app icons changing to X as well.
OnePlus Open
OnePlus had already announced that it would launch its first foldable during Q3 this year. The company is yet to reveal the launch date and tease the device but there have been multiple leaks and rumours around it. One of them is on its name, which is said to be ‘Open’. This week OnePlus confirmed that its upcoming phone will be called OnePlus Open through a tweet that read,”We OPEN when others FOLD.”
Nothing takes a dig at Tecno
Tecno is preparing to launch a new phone called the ‘POVA 5 Pro’. Teasers for the Tecno POVA 5 Pro show that the phone will feature interactive LED lights at the back that will light up during an incoming call. Nothing decided to call Tecno out on Twitter saying, “If you want to copy our homework, just ask next time?” The LED design is an exact copy of the Nothing Phone (2), the concept is quite similar.
Infinix GT 10 Pro India launch date
Infinix GT 10 Pro is another Nothing Phone (2) lookalike in the making, and it’s launching in India on August 3rd. The company has also revealed that the phone will be priced under Rs 20,000. The Infinix GT 10 Pro has a strikingly similar-looking design to that of the Phone (2). The rear panel also has interactive LEDs that will light up when a game is launched on the phone, for notifications, and for charging status updates as well.
