Android 14 was expected to release on September 5th, 2023 but now it seems to have been pushed to a later date. Google could delay the launch of the Android 14 stable version on October 4th. This means the Android 14 release could coincide with the Pixel 8 announcement.
Android 14 Pixel 8 launch on October 4th
As per tech journalist Mishaal Rahman, the Android 14 stable release to the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) was initially thought to take place on September 5th ahead of Labour Day in the US.
Android 14 Beta 5 was released on August 23rd and the stable update was expected next. Its predecessor also had only till Beta 4 and after these many beta updates, Android 14 was believed to have hit platform stability and was just about to receive the final update.
Well, that was the supposed plan but things got changed at the last minute. The reason is not known though. Perhaps there’s some issue with the OS which could also be why we got a surprise 5th beta update.
So it is now expected to come along with the Pixel 8 series and Pixel Watch 2 on October 4th, 2023, again something that hasn’t happened before.
This sudden change in plans could also impact the Android 14 rollout plans of OnePlus and other Android phone brands.
However, nothing can be said for sure as everything’s just speculation at this point. And Google could still release Android 14 AOSP update before October 4th. In time we’ll know. Meanwhile, you can check out our Android 14 update tracker.
