Nothing brings iMessage to Android so you don’t have to move to an iPhone

Highlights
  • Nothing Chats is a new messaging app that supports iMessage.
  • You can text iMessage users with the blue bubbles experience.
  • It’s only available for Phone (2) users though, and in select countries.

iMessage is one major feature that sets apart iPhones from Android phones. The blue bubbles have been hyped so much that it’s somewhat become a status quo for iPhone users. For some iPhone users, iMessage is one of the main reasons why they won’t switch to an Android. Nothing has now stepped in with an app that will let you text iMessage users from the Phone (2)

Nothing Chats app with support for iMessage

Nothing says that messaging services are “dividing phone users” and that it “wants to break those barriers down” with the new app. Nothing Chats has been developed with Sunbird, a messaging platform that also has its own app to chat with iMessage users.

Nothing Chats not only gives you the iMessage experience but actually text iMessage users. So with Nothing Chats, you get to send messages with blue bubbles along with some key iMessage features. These include group chats, the ability to send original quality media, and you’ll also see when someone’s typing.

It even supports SMS so you can text message others as well. The app doesn’t support editing messages, read receipts, and message reactions yet. But Nothing plans on adding them soon.

According to a report by The Washington Post (via The Verge), Tapback reactions on the Nothing Chats don’t work properly yet. Group chats also need some work as some messages had to be sent multiple times. Also, group chats with iMessage users will only work if they’re all using iMessage. This means that you can’t club iMessage and other Android users in a group chat together.

Availability

Nothing Chats is currently in beta, and it will be available for Phone (2) users in the US, Canada, UK and EU from Friday onwards. The app will be available to download from the Play Store. The company plans on bringing Nothing Chats to more countries soon.
