iPhone 15 Ultra has hit the rumour mill again, less than a month away from the iPhone 15 series’ rumoured launch date of September 12th or 13th. AppleInsider’s Andrew O’Hara claims that Apple might indeed be dropping the iPhone 15 Pro Max moniker and instead going with ‘Ultra’ for this year’s top-end model. The source also reveals how different the iPhone 15 Ultra will be from the iPhone 15 Pro model.
iPhone 15 Ultra camera could zoom like Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
Although previously, we had heard the so-called iPhone 15 Ultra could come with 5x or 6x zoom capability, O’Hara says it will be able to zoom up to 10x range thanks to a periscope telephoto lens. This seems something drawn out of Samsung’s playbook as the Galaxy S23 Ultra does sport a 10x optical zoom lens.
Samsung uses a 10MP sensor for this telephoto lens but we don’t have a word on the sensor that Apple could use for this purpose. Other than this, another rumour suggests the primary sensor could be an almost 1-inch Sony IMX903.
Mr O’Hara goes on to share other likely features of this upcoming iPhone though.

- Besides a better-zooming facility, the iPhone 15 Ultra could also have a bigger display. We suppose this will be of 6.7-inches like the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is pretty large already and something people are accustomed to by now. Also for cost reasons, the company could stick to this screen size.
- Powering this larger screen would be a big battery and likely bigger than the Pro model. Again, it is something we have seen in the previous Pro Max models.
- Unlike the older generations, this new iPhone could feature an Action Button instead of the signature Ring/Silent Switch. We have come across this rumour before. The Action Button could be a multi-functioning toggle for many things including a mute option.
- This mute button could be sitting on a Titanium chassis. This stronger body could be housing a powerful 3nm Apple A17 Bionic processor too.
