Jio has discontinued its cheapest Rs 119 prepaid recharge plan, which customers rely on to keep their Jio numbers active. The recharge plan has been removed from its official website and MyJio app. The motive behind this step is to improve the ‘Average Revenue Per User (ARPU)’ in the country. Now, the cheapest Jio prepaid recharge pack is the Rs 149 plan, which offers 20 days of validity.

Jio discontinued Rs 119 prepaid recharge plan

  • To recall, Jio’s Rs 119 prepaid plan offered unlimited voice calling, 1.5GB of daily data, and 100 SMS per day. This pack has a validity of 14 days and there were no other benefits.
  • Besides Jio, Airtel also discontinued its base Rs 99 recharge pack earlier this year only to improve its ARPU.
  • Airtel’s most affordable prepaid plan now costs Rs 155, which is now close to Jio’s current Rs 149 pack after discontinuing the Rs 119 recharge offer.

Airtel vs. Jio: cheapest plans compared

Jio’s Rs 149 recharge plan comes with some additional benefits compared to the Rs 119 pack. Firstly, this offers 20 days of validity to subscribers, a total of 20GB of data (1GB of data each day), and 100 SMS per day. Users get access to JioTV, JioCinema, and JioCloud subscriptions with the plan.

In comparison, Airtel’s Rs 155 prepaid recharge plan comes with a validity of 24 days and offers unlimited voice calling and 1GB of total data. The pack only offers 300 SMS for the entire validity. Other benefits include a free HelloTunes subscription and Wynk Music.

Despite having lower validity, Jio’s plan seems like a value-for-money offering considering it gives users 1GB daily data compared to Airtel’s 1GB for 24 days.
