This Google Pixel 8 Pro ‘exclusive feature’ also works on Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6: here’s how

The Google Pixel 8 Pro comes with an exclusive ‘Pro Controls’ feature that basically offers advanced camera settings. This feature has been launched only for the Pixel 8 Pro, and not even the Pixel 8 gets it. But turns out you can actually get access to this exclusive feature, and run it on the older Pixels. 

Pixel 8 Pro exclusive feature on older Pixels

The Pixel 8 Pro’s pro controls lets you manually adjust the white balance, exposure and shadows brightness along with the focus, shutter speed and ISO. This basically lets you make the most of the Pixel 8 Pro’s camera prowess and fine tune your photos. There’s a way though to get the Pixel 8 Pro’s exclusive feature as demonstrated by tipster Kamila Wojciechowska. 

It's a real shame Google's limiting the feature to the 8 Pro – it's not like there's anything to justify the decision, it's simply an artificial software lock to force users who want the feature to get a more expensive phone (and I think it's worked on me…)

According to the tipster, this was possible through the Google Camera APK version for the Pixel 8, and force enabling the feature. The tipster added that this works even on the Tensor-powered Pixel 6 series and the Pixel 7 series as well. With the Pro Controls, you can override automatic lens switching that Google does on the Pixels. One example is the telephoto lens not triggering in low-light but you can override this, and also get full control over it. 

With the Pro Controls, you not only get more control over the phone’s camera but you also get that “shoot and forget” experience, according to the tipster. Kamila adds that this feature is “simply an artificial software lock” that Google is using to get people to pay for the Pixel 8 Pro.
